Our Story
Where it All Began
I’m Lasni Motswagae, the owner and operator of Seeds of Knowledge.
Since I began teaching, I have always had a passion for helping kids achieve big things. I have been driven by the belief that every child has the power to succeed.
Simply put, we should not only teach children to read and write but also help them discover the immense potential of their minds and prepare them for the journey of learning.
I have found that when we teach children the academic skills they need combined with the confidence they need, they will be unstoppable in their learning journeys!
As a classroom teacher though, I often saw capable, intelligent children struggle and instantly lose their self-confidence as soon as they thought something was too difficult.
I saw children who wouldn’t engage in class discussions. I saw children who would escalate their behaviour to avoid completing tasks.
I saw children who were struggling with anxiety, which prevented them from enjoying all the new experiences that school had to offer.
You may recognise some of these scenarios.
It was at this point I began researching and implementing Growth Mindset strategies into my classes. I immediately noticed a difference! I was amazed that something as simple as changing the way I spoke about learning, combined with engaging learning experiences, could profoundly affect my students.
My First Steps
Once I realised how invaluable quality teaching and developing a growth mindset was, I started to dream about the even greater impact it could have in tutoring sessions.
When I started researching different tutoring systems, I was dismayed by how many operated as a one-size-fits-all booklet approach.
I knew something was missing!
I believe children need to be taught about the power of their minds to help them become motivated, inquisitive learners in all areas of their lives. This led me to start Seeds of Knowledge in 2011. Since then, through the amazing word-of-mouth of the parents whose kids I was teaching, Seeds of Knowledge grew, and I am now joined by a team of excellent, fun, passionate educators who are knowledgeable in growth mindset theory.
The Now
By creating and implementing The C.O.N.F.I.D.E.N.T Approach in tutoring sessions, I have seen dramatic changes in my students’ academic results and confidence.
Parents have remarked on the changes they have seen. One of my proudest tutor moments was when one of my students received an award for achieving the biggest growth throughout the year! Seeing the look of pride on his face was even more amazing.
I truly believe all students always have the ability to achieve great results! They just lack the confidence to learn through their mistakes and benefit from the extra care and attention of individualised, group tutoring with a qualified and experienced tutor.
