Literacy and Numeracy Group Tutoring

Primary years of schooling are where children are taught the fundamental skills necessary for life, their foundation for all future learning.

As we work with your child, you’ll see them rapidly consolidate, improve and extend themselves in literacy and numeracy skills.

But with one key added advantage…

Something that will energise them throughout their educational journey, and beyond… a growth mindset. It’s this added ingredient we add to the program that sets Seeds of Knowledge apart. (More on this later.)

Three Key Learning Areas

As you know, the foundations of a great education are Reading, Writing and Maths.  Uniquely, as we work with your child in these three areas, they will learn to apply their Growth Mindset each step of the way.

We can’t stress too much just how empowering this is for young minds and their ability to overcome the sometimes daunting challenges of learning.

With their newly embedded Growth Mindset, you’ll see them relish learning with unbounded confidence and enthusiasm.

Seeds of Knowledge

Reading

The skills of reading in our structured curriculum are:

  • Letter/sound knowledge
  • Auditory discrimination
  • Phonemics development
  • Comprehension

Without these vital skills, children cannot transfer their knowledge to future learning.

Seeds of Knowledge uses a Balanced Literacy Approach to the teaching of reading.

Seeds of Knowledge

Writing

When children have learnt the skill of reading, they must develop their writing skills through:

  • understanding different text structures
  • learning a range of sentence structures
  • spelling
  • grammar
Seeds of Knowledge

Maths

Number knowledge is the foundation of numeracy and it is imperative that children have a strong foundation in understanding and developing fluency in mathematics.

The skills of Numeracy are:

  • Foundational Maths
  • Maths Problems

Importantly, all of our teaching is based on goals aligned with the Australian Curriculum. This ensures that the learning supports the student’s progress through their schooling years.

Why is Seeds of Knowledge Different?

Seeds of Knowledge believes in developing the whole child through a range of processes, including:

  • Structured curriculum that connects to how children learn and develop in the three key learning areas of Maths, Reading and Writing;
  • Growth Mindset principles;
  • Confidence building;
  • A shared language around learning; and of course
  • Enjoyment and fun

… and we hire only the best qualified teachers, trained in our special program, to ensure your child has every chance and opportunity to be a successful and confident learner who embraces the challenges that naturally come with learning.

The Seeds of Knowledge Process

At Seeds of Knowledge, we systemise the process of understanding your child’s needs for tutoring. The steps we take to ensure we are meeting your child’s learning needs include:

A Get-To-Know Us Chat

We value chatting with parents to understand their concerns and aspirations for their child’s learning. This chat allows you to better understand the Seeds of Knowledge process and to decide if our process is what you’re looking for to help your child.

Assessment

Next, we will do a thorough assessment of your child’s learning development as a starting point to place your child in exactly the right group of students.

Individualised Learning Plan

This is KEY!  We’ll develop an Individualised Learning Plan for you to guide you and the tutor inaccurately identifying the learning needs of your child.

Reports

If you have tapped into other resources, we’ll value the input of teachers, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, paediatricians and others to understand the ‘whole’ child.

Group Placement

Group tutoring is powerful, as children learn with each other while noticing that they are not alone in the struggle of learning.

Children learn Reading, Writing and Maths best in social situations as they share ideas and create new knowledge.

We take group placement seriously to ensure the best fit for your child’s learning needs and abilities

Commencement Into Group Tutoring

Your child can start at any point within the Education Queensland School term, which aligns with timetable vacancies. Of course, our booking process is based on committing to a full term of tutoring.

Your Investment

The Seeds of Knowledge process is unlike other tutoring services, uniquely focused on developing confident, successful learners who VALUE learning, and relish the challenge of learning.

Hence, understand the investment will be at a premium. When we chat, we’ll go through all of that with you, so you can make an informed decision.

Testimonials

Natalie

“Thriving in his lessons and really does enjoy it.”

Seeds of Knowledge was recommended to us by a good friend. My husband and I noticed from parent-teacher interviews that our 9-year-old son needed support in writing. I was a little apprehensive at first, not knowing what to expect. My initial phone call to Lasni was informative, and she put me at ease immediately.

From our son’s assessment with Lasni to the weekly classes with Kerim, we know we made the right decision in enrolling him. The teachers of Seeds of Knowledge are incredible and so encouraging. Our son is thriving in his lesson and really does enjoy it. Thank you, Seeds of Knowledge!

"...gain confidence in reading and writing"

Seeds of Knowledge helped my 6-year-old child to gain confidence in reading and writing.

Over 2 terms my child was able to improve from not really able to read or write to doing so with greater fluency.

Christine

“Happy to learn again, and happy to give things a go.”

Alex has only been going to SOK for a few weeks but I’ve seen a difference in him already. He is just happy to learn again, and happy to give things a go. His school teacher even pulled me aside to tell me the same thing.

Alex lately has been reading me a bedtime story and is proud of his ability which is really lovely to see.

“I used to think that learning was hard…”

I love tutoring because it helps me get to where I need to be in class. I used to think that learning was hard, but now it is getting easier.

Lasni teaches me stuff step-by-step and makes it easier to understand.

“Philosophy and the approach to teaching has been refreshing and engaging.”

Seeds of Knowledge was recommended to us by another parent.

We were looking for a tutor to help our daughter after reports from school that she was behind.

The Seeds of Knowledge philosophy and the approach to teaching have been refreshing and engaging.

Our daughter has been given life skills to help her stay focused, identify when she needs help and confidence to give things a go.

We are so thankful and pleased with the progress our daughter is now making in the classroom. Thank you Seeds of Knowledge!

"More confidence in the classroom at school!"

My daughter has benefited a lot from her online classes.

Lasni kept her engaged and encouraged her all the time which transferred to her having more confidence in the classroom at school.

Casper

"We see his confidence..."

Our son had been struggling for a few years in school, and we were worried he was falling too far behind. Even his teachers were concerned and despite attempting to help as much as we could, we couldn’t make headway.

Bobby has improved in both maths and English since starting with Seeds of Knowledge and we see his confidence tackling new problems grow each day. Persistence is the key and that is what we are starting to see in Bobby after a few terms with Seeds of Knowledge tutoring.

Zoe

"Lasni has changed our lives!"

We engaged Lasni at Seeds of Knowledge because our daughter required assistance with her maths. She lacked confidence in her learning and this created a massive road block of “I can’t”.

Lasni is caring, engaging, positive and supportive. She creates an environment where getting things wrong is a good thing… that mistakes make you grow.

She has helped our daughter immensely, and her attitude not only in Maths but all aspects of her schooling has improved 100%. She now loves to learn!

I cannot recommend Seeds of Knowledge enough. Lasni has changed our lives!

"I could see she got so much out of it – confidence, learning and fun."

My daughter attended a weekly online class during COVID-19 homeschooling times and she absolutely loved it, she really looked forward to it.

I could see she got so much out of it – confidence, learning & fun. I would definitely recommend sending your child here for Tutoring. Since Covid-19 I now send my daughter weekly, she loves it!
