Prepping for Prep Parent Presentation
The Top Ten Skills for Prep Readiness
Seeds of Knowledge offers an early years presentation based on the top 10 skills for Prep readiness. The early years of learning are crucial learning years where children develop the foundations of learning and confidence. This is the time to connect with and help the parents to fully understand how children’s early development links to the Prep Year.
This highly successful presentation is based on Lasni’s experience as a primary teacher, tutor and a mother of two young children. This presentation was developed as a result of having many conversations with parents and early childhood professionals. As they had many questions and concerns about the transition between Kindergarten and Prep.
Research has shown that a successful transition into Prep requires a solid foundation of Prep readiness. Do you consider that every child has Prep readiness? As the demands of the education system increase with the engagement of formal learning at a younger age, parents can often be unaware of what their child needs to be successful and confident when they enter the Prep learning year.
The Prep4Prep Presentation is a one-hour, interactive talk which covers 10 Essential Early Learning Skills around Prep and Parent Readiness. The topics covered include:
- Language Development – why this is key, and ways to support your child’s development
- Emotional Learning – resilience, self-regulation and self-control is the backbone to a happy school life
- Social Learning – why social skills are essential to early childhood learning
- Visual Discrimination – the unsung hero to early reading
- Gross and Fine Motor – how it impacts early competency, and how to develop it early
- Auditory Discrimination – what it is and why it is important
- Memory – a skill to be developed
- School Life – is your child ready?
- Parent Readiness – why school is a big step for parents too
- Growth Mindset – one of the biggest (and lesser known) secrets of successful students
You can also read more about the skills in our Top 10 Tips for Prep Readiness article. The skills covered have been carefully considered alongside Kindy teachers, as they are the foundations of a successful Prep child. These are the skills that we want every parent to know and understand before their child enters Prep.
