The CONFIDENT Approach

The Confident Mindset Approach

Seeds of Knowledge focuses not only on student academic outcomes. We also incorporate, build and connect children to develop a confident mindset. We understand that unless a child’s mind is prepared for the challenges, difficulties and setbacks they will face during learning they will not be ready to even begin the process of learning.

Seeds of Knowledge has created a unique formula to provide your young child with the ability to learn what a C.O.N.F.I.D.E.N.T. child looks, sounds and feels like. Together, we will discover and unpack how each element will help your child grow to be the best that they can possibly be. Each letter of the acronym is a focus that will help your child achieve their very best.

confident mindset

We pride ourselves on developing:

  • Community – what’s happening in their world of learning, what works what may not?
  • Ownership – remember, your child’s learning journey is not something that should be thrust on them, we want them to own it, embrace it and achieve their goals.
  • New information/knowledge – focusing on the curriculum and understanding where it is leading is key to being invested in achievement and overall performance.
  • Feedback – There’s much more to this than a gold star or a “must try harder.” Feedback is the opportunity we must seize to course-correct, encourage and congratulate our children.
  • Identity – you know your child’s name and what they look like but who are they as a learner? What helps? What doesn’t?
  • Development – understanding child development and the gaps that are, or may become apparent, is a skill that our team of qualified experienced primary school teachers are trained to address.
  • Engagement, effort, energy, encouragement and environment are all critical success factors that we will look at in detail. These are the intangibles that, when developed, equip young students to face and overcome the inevitable challenges that the curriculum will present.
  • Nurture – this chapter will help us explore all aspects from connections to parents, teachers, tutors, to thinking about the whole child as a learner.
  • Time – is critical to early learning in terms of development, and complacency and hesitation, can and often do have lasting, negative effect on children’s learning trajectories and experiences. We will look at appropriate timings and the benefits of setting your child on the right path as soon as possible.

I wanted to present these key elements to you in a form that is easily digestible for the time-poor (which feels like all of us, to be honest) but in a way that does justice to the very necessary details that will help your child be the best they can be. It’s a reoccurring theme but a very important one that is very close to my heart and is most likely close to yours as well.

So, on that note, I think we should get started. Ready?

The Confidence Mindset

  • Positive in the face of challenges.
  • Understands that learning can be difficult and it is a process.
  • Learning takes effort.
  • Listens to and takes on feedback.
  • Views failure as an opportunity to have another go.

The Give-Up Mindset

  • Switches off/gives up/becomes anxious/angry if something is too difficult.
  • Tries to avoid learning when it becomes too difficult.
  • Believes that someone is naturally smart or not smart and that this cannot be changed.
  • Gets upset or becomes discouraged by constructive feedback.
  • Views any failure as reinforcement that they cannot learn.

Do Any of These Sound Familiar?

Have you noticed that your child moves between these mindsets depending on the task they are facing?

Our Learning to Learn program is based on this philosophy and is specifically designed to enhance your child’s confidence in learning.
