Higher Order Thinking (HOT) is the key to success
HOT4Learning Holiday Program
Looking for a productive way to unlock your child’s hidden potential these September holidays?
Our unique HOT4Learning holiday program is tailored to take junior primary learners to the next level. It’s strategically designed to give students a tool kit of critical thinking skills to enrich their learning during the important early years.
This three-half-day program uses a creative and engaging hands-on approach that keeps students switched on and ready to learn. Practical exercises and a fun group environment offer something to look forward to as we build skills for a lifelong love of learning.
What is Higher Order Thinking?
Higher Order Thinking (HOT) is a series of skills relating to analysis, evaluation and abstract thought. These skills help children move beyond simply memorizing facts, and instead develop a deeper understanding of concepts that lie beneath the curriculum itself. It’s an enduring set of mental skills that have life-long application, from primary school and beyond.
Children naturally develop thinking skills that relate to knowledge, comprehension and application. They’re born problem solvers, with curious minds primed for learning. However, HOT takes longer to learn and require more consolidation. It’s less intuitive and requires direct teaching to develop these deeper thinking skills.
HOT can often be overlooked during the busy school term. Additionally, these vital skills are not consistently taught in the same way as literacy and numeracy. It is often assumed that these skills are inherent within a student’s knowledge base and consequently aren’t addressed directly.
In this program, your child will learn and practise these critical thinking skills in a relaxed, activity-based environment. Our goal is to take your child’s learning beyond the curriculum and to the next level.
How will the Seeds of Knowledge HOT4Learning Program help develop your child’s academic skills?
This unique higher order thinking skills program will develop a range of learning skills, including:
- Foundational thinking skills (knowledge, comprehension, and application)
- Language and listening skills
- Critical and problem-solving skills
- Confidence building
Over the three days, children will be engaged in activities that cover:
- Developing comprehension skills: the students will engage in various activities to support the complex skills of comprehending what they are learning.
- Problem-solving to extend learning: children will participate in hands-on activities linked to literacy and numeracy development.
- School academic skills: essential to progress knowledge from the concrete to abstract.
This truly unique program will propel your child’s learning and unlock their hidden potential.
